Love stories and flirtation in the high aristocracy of early 20th century. At the time it caused a scandal, today we're too used to this exquisite dish to have a stomachache from it.

The fact that it was written by a woman adds an extra level of interest, although not necessarily truth, to what is written. The style is wonderful, sublime, D'Annunzian; the reading is occasionally thrilling. Unfortunately, the love stories of the VIPs, at least to me, have grown tiresome.
